This one was serial number 111.......doubt there are many of these available today!.....
Built as a Two Chassis arrangement with the RF tubes and Detector in
the above solid
Cast Aluminum chassis.........RF section uses a total of 8 tubes.......7
RF plus a Detector......
Bottom view of the RF Chassis......with 4 section variable capacitor
tuning and three Untuned RF stages...
plus the Detector tube........all 8 tubes are type 27 .......
Notice the two small coils mounted to a shaft..these form the "Volume
Control Curcuit" that varies
the coupling between stages in the RF section........
Top of the RF Chassis shows a nice clean layout of tubes and tuning capacitor.........
This is the Internal Loop Antenna that is Rotated by a flexible shaft
using a knob on the front
panel of the radio......It is directional enough that you can "Null
Out" 1190 ...WOWO...a 50KW
station that is only 35 miles from my location............allowing
out to then listen to a much weaker
station on 1200 KC's........
Unfortunately someplace in its past....someone removed the Amp/Power
supply that should have
been in this radio........it ran a pair of Globe 50 tubes and
a pair of type 81 rectifiers........
In its place we installed an Amp/Power supply from a Zenith 12-H-090
radio running a pair of 6V6 tubes
and a single 5Y3 rectifier.........and an additional chassis for the
2.5 volt @ 14 amps required for the 8
type 27 tubes.........Someday we may get lucky and find the correct
Amp/Supply for it.........
Now this is One Big Piece of "Furniture"..........
Opened for your living room pleasure!........
Restored and Operating by John & Jean during the Summer of
2001........
