This is a somewhat rare chairside model. Philco only built and sold
a limited number of this model.
This cabinet designed and sold in 1933 came with 4 different chassis.
Models 14RX, 16RX, 17RX, 18RX with a total production of only
4,500 units total for the 4 models.
No idea of the split between the 4 models but this model 17 is one of
the rarer of the group. The top of the cabinet swivels open to get to the radio
and storage area inside the cabinet. The Radio came with the external
speaker cabinet and a cable to connect the two.
The receiver is an 11 tube design so it is an excellent radio. It covers the AM radio band
and Low Shortwave from 1.5 to 4 Mhz.
So set this nice little endtable next to your easy chair and the speaker across the
room and enjoy a very nice radio.
